Laureate Education will partner with IBM to design a science curriculum for the more than 1 million students at its nearly 70 for-profit schools around the world.

The Baltimore-based owner and operator of higher-education institutions in 23 countries said the courses will focus on developing students for jobs as business analysts, data scientists, project managers and software engineers.

“We are in an age where technology continues to play an increasingly important role in society, so at Laureate, it is our priority to ensure that our students are equipped with the knowledge and skills that allow them to successfully compete in the global workforce,” Laureate CEO Eilif Serck-Hanssen said in a statement. “Our collaboration with IBM reinforces our commitment to providing accessible quality higher education that leads to attractive employment opportunities for our students around the world.”

Set to launch in August, the curriculum will teach students about up-to-the-minute advances in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and machine learning in a virtual lab-based, experiential environment. It will be available in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
