As a nonprofit leader, how many timesdo you think, "If we only had the money, we could..." Just fill in the blank. We've all been there. With cuts in government grant programs and increasing competition for private philanthropy, nonprofit organizations need to come up with new ways to generate income. Social entrepreneurship is one way you might carefully consider.
Many of us in the nonprofit sector have an entrepreneurial spirit. Yes, we are also service-driven, but we wouldn't be where we are today without a healthy dose of innovation and calculated risk-taking. I invite you to look into the Social Enterprise Program, offered by the University of Baltimore, to see if it might be of interest to you and your organization as a way to develop a business opportunity that naturally complements and supports your mission.
I look forward to hearing from anyone who takes advantage of this opportunity to become Baltimore's, or America's, next great social entrepreneur!
Sincerely,
Greg Cantori, [ABAG Member] The Marion I. and Henry J. Knott Foundation
