Philanthropy has a powerful voice with which it can talk about racial equity and inclusion. Yet an important step in preparation for using that voice is to develop clear messages that all staff and trustees can use to communicate comfortably both internally and externally. Fortunately, there are several tools and resources available to assist organizations.

During this interactive session, participants will:

  • Learn about tools developed to help people get comfortable talking about racism, equity, and inclusion;
  • Understand research-based frameworks organizations can use to develop their messaging;
  • Discuss how to build will within your organization to talk about race, structural racism and equity and what things can create barriers to constructive conversation;
  • Hear how other foundations are using their voice to talk about racism, equity, and inclusion and;
  • Start to build your messages and practice using your voice in a safe environment.

Our speakers will be Kate Shatzkin, Senior Communications Manager, The Annie E. Casey Foundation and Kelly Brown, Consultant, D5 Coalition/Viewpoint Consulting.

This program is part of ABAG’s Philanthropy and Racial Equity Series and is for ABAG members only. Remote participation is not available for this program.
