ABAG annually invites our members and partners to celebrate our region's community of grantmakers and elect our board members. Each year a keynote address serves to inspire and challenge local philanthropy to work smartly and passionately to improve community conditions. We are especially pleased to welcome Leslie Crutchfield, a renowned advisor to both nonprofit organizations and foundations on high-impact philanthropy.

About Leslie Crutchfield

An internationally-renown author, speaker, and leading authority on scaling social innovation and high-impact philanthropy, Leslie serves as a senior advisor with FSG, a nonprofit strategy firm cofounded in 1999 as Foundation Strategy Group by Mark R. Kramer and Michael E. Porter. Leslie and FSG managing directors John Kania and Mark Kramer are co-authors of a new book on catalytic philanthropy, Do More Than Give, which showcases high-impact funders who change the world (Wiley 2011). She co-authored the critically-acclaimed book, Forces for Good: The Six Practices of High-Impact Nonprofits (Wiley 2008), recognized by The Economist on its Best Books of Year list. For the past decade Leslie has guided a range of nonprofit and philanthropic organizations across North America as an independent advisor. Leslie is a recent managing director of Ashoka and former director of Ashoka’s USA and Canada fellowship program. In the 1990s, Leslie cofounded and ran a nonprofit social enterprise. Leslie is a frequently invited to lecture at domestic and international events, and to conduct workshops and private training sessions for nonprofit and philanthropic leaders. She is an active media contributor whose work has been featured in Fortune, Forbes, hbr.org, Fast Company, The Washington Post, The Chronicle of Philanthropy, and Stanford Social Innovation Review, and she has appeared on programs such as ABC News, NPR and PBS. Leslie serves on the boards of SEED Foundation and Kiva, and she was a Crossroads volunteer in Africa. She holds an MBA and a BA from Harvard University, and resides in the Washington, D.C., area with her family.
